SEM. Sakaria KONE

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenopotentiary

His Excellency Sakaria KONE was born on 15 September 1973 in Touroni in the Department of Odienne in Côte d’Ivoire, where he began his schooling. After the baccalaureate literacy series (A2) obtained in 1994 at the Lycee Moderne of the same city, he continued his studies at the University of South Africa and its Graduate School of Business Leadership (UNISA).

He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in International Politics and Diplomacy and a Master’s Business Leadership. He started his career in 1999 in various African Embassies in South Africa, including Guinea and Burundi, as a Personal Assistant, before joining the University of South Africa (UNISA), South Africa’s largest university based in Pretoria, where he held the positions of International Agreements Coordinator and Internationalisation and Institutional Cooperations.

In February 2008, he joined the African Union as Head of Cabinet of the African Union Special Representative for Somalia (AMISOM), based in Nairobi, Kenya.

In 2013, he decided to serve his country and integrated the Ivorian diplomatic service. From March 2013 to February 2018, he was appointed First Secretary and then Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in South Africa.

Recalled to Abidjan, he was appointed Ambassador and became the Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Republic from January 2019 to October 2020. He was then appointmented as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to South Africa and presented his credentials in November 2020.

He holds several certificates including the training of Heads of Missions on Peacekeeping Operations, Communication and Report writing and Marketing and Sales Management. He is fluent in English and French and has some knowledge of Spanish. His Excellency Sakaria KONE is a Knight of the National Order and father of two daughters.
